IT was hail-hailed at the time of its launch as the largest infrastructure investment by the club since the redevelopment of Parkhead.

But Celtic fans have been left wondering of late just what is happening with the development of the brand-new training complex at Barrowfield.

When finished, the facility – located just a Kasper Schmeichel wind-assisted goal kick from Celtic Park – will become the new home for the Celtic women’s team as well as their boys’ and girls’ youth academies.

Its features will include an improved indoor arena to the one currently at Lennoxtown, state-of-the-art gym and fitness facilities, lavish lit-up changing areas, medical suites for player treatment and rehab as well as sport science and analysis centres.

A combination of outdoor natural grass and artificial pitches are also being laid.

At the club’s latest AGM in November, it was revealed the complex would be up and running by January.

Four months later, however, and there is still no sign of an official opening – leaving some supporters wondering about the reasons behind the delay.

Looking to find out a bit more on their behalf has been the man behind the YouTube channel, Drone Audits Scotland.

He took a trip out to Barrowfield last week to send his drone up above the complex to capture footage of the latest developments.

There wasn’t much sign of construction work happening down below, with an on-site security guard revealing the completion of the facility was now only “two to three weeks away”.

And while two of the pitches were still to be turfed and had tractors working on them, two of the others appeared to be finished or close to it.

That could see the Celtic women and youth prospects in there on a regular basis over the summer.

And fans were grateful to Drone Audits Scotland – who also filmed footage of the Ibrox stadium construction work earlier this season – for the latest update.

One wrote: “Brilliant as always mate. And thanks for keeping us fans updated, unlike the club.”

Another added: “Cheers mucker. Another class video and update. Also best security (guard) yet. Onto the next one.”

While a third commented: “Another great video mate. The place is starting to look the part. Cheers for footage DAS.”
